My work is drawn to a studied casualness in abstraction that aims to embrace an off-kilter, intuitive, and open-minded approach to painting. I experiment with formal elements by combining references that are art historical, cultural, and personal. I consistently work in different mediums and generate connections sustained by impulse and alternative art materials. My paintings are ambiguous and contain many splintered meanings that harken back to the process of painting itself. My work is currently concerned with fragments, the loss of innocence, authenticity, finding beauty in ordinary forms, stripes, pirates, aura, graffiti, romanticism, mud, green, plastic bathrobe, industrial spotlight, black clouds of chemical tarnation in the night sky, sinking into sadness, signaling the grid, awkwardness, black square, the same old shit, abstraction, insanity, 4runner, and losers.
